Zhdanov K.I. - Chief Designer 

Zhdanov Konstantin Ivanovich was born on 12 March 1906 in a family of office employee of Andreevsk digging in Irkutsk region. In 1930 he completed his studies at the mechanical faculty of the Siberian Mechanical Institute, took the degree of mechanical engineer in the specialty of aviation engine designing. Since November 1930 till March 1931 worked at the Siberian Mechanical Institute in Tomsk as instructor for the Strength of materials courses.

Since August 1938 directed the Experimental Design Office 150, which was found newly in Stupino, afterwards named as the Machine-building Design Office of Stupino.

For 33 years of his work the following products of the aviation technics have been created and introduced:

I. In prewar time and during the World War II.

  1. Automatic propeller of adjustable pitch AV-1 for I-16 and I-153 fighters ;
  2. A-5-158 Adjustable pitch propeller for Il-2 and Il-10 battleplanes ;
  3. A-5B-139 - Adjustable pitch propeller for Pe-2 dive-bomber ;
  4. A-5-167 - Adjustable pitch propeller for Tu-2 dive-bomber ;
  5. A-5-100 - Adjustable pitch propeller for MIG-3 fighter .

In 1946 the State Prize for a creation of battleplanes and fighters propellers was awarded.

II. The following adjustable pitch propellers with feathered characteristics and speed regulators were created and put into operation in the postwar period.

  1. A-7-161- feathered adjustable pitch propeller for Li-2 passenger aircraft ;
  2. A-9-91- feathered adjustable pitch propeller for Il-12 passenger aircraft ;
  3. A-50- feathered adjustable pitch propeller for Il-14 passenger aircraft ;
  4. -50- regulator of constant number of revolutions ;
  5. AB-2- feathered adjustable pitch propeller for AH-2 passenger aircraft ;
  6. AB-79- feathered adjustable pitch propeller with thrust reversal for Ka-30 snowplanes ;
  7. AB-14- feathered adjustable pitch propeller for An-14 aircraft ;
  8. B-306A- antitorque propeller for Mi-1 helicopter;
  9. AB-63- antitorque propeller for Mi-6, Mi-10 helicopters

All these items till nowadays represent the serial production and are in wide use. Having a large number of operating hours they possess a high reliability.

III. The feathered reversible AV-48 and AV-55 propellers and also P-48 regulators were created for aircrafts with powerful piston engines.

They were produced for Tu-95 aircrafts in small amount.

IV. Creation of the feathered propellers and regulators of constant speed for aircrafts with powerful turboprop engines.

  1. AB-68- feathered adjustable pitch propeller for Il-18, An-10 and An-12 aircrafts;
  2. -68- feathered adjustable pitch propeller for An-8, Be-12 aircrafts;
  3. AB-72- feathered adjustable pitch propeller for An-24 and An-26 aircrafts;
  4. AB-60K- feathered coaxial adjustable pitch propeller for HK-12 engine with power of 15000h.p. for Tu-114 and Tu-95 aircrafts;
  5. AB-90- feathered coaxial adjustable pitch propeller with 6,2 m diameter for An-22 aircraft;
  6. -60- feathered coaxial adjustable pitch propeller for Tu-142 aircraft;
  7. P-68- regulator of constant number of revolutions for AI-20 engine;
  8.  -68-24- regulator of constant number of revolutions for An-24 engine;
  9. P-60K- regulator of constant number of revolutions for HK-12MB engine;
  10. P-90- regulator of constant number of revolutions for HK-12MA engine.

All these items are in a serial production and in use.

In 1957 for the creation of coaxial AV-60K propellers Zhdanov K.I. was rewarded with the Lenins premium.

V. Creation of auxiliary power units (APU) as gas-turbine engines with power of 200-500 h.p. to install in modern aircrafts.

  1. TA-4- APU for An-22 aircraft;
  2. TA-4- APU for "Yastreb";
  3. -6- APU for Il-62 aircraft;
  4. TA-6A- APU for Il-62M, Tu-144, Tu-154; Tu-22M; Il-76 and other aircrafts;
  5. TA-8 APU for Tu-134A aircraft.

VI. Creation of mechanisms for an aircrafts wing sweep change.

  1. VP-23 for MIG-23 aircraft;
  2. VP-2 for Tu-22M aircraft;
  3. VP-4 for T-56 aircraft;
  4. VP-7 for Tu-144 aircraft .
